Step 1: Orientation
Orientation is offered to acclimate you to all things PSEO!
PSEO Orientation session dates for 2026 will be available in March.
Step 2: Initiate (claim) your internet ID account
This is your unique account ID that gives you access to U of M network resources.
- Go to Claim Account
- Enter your UMD student ID number.
- Create a password. Please view the tips on how to create a good password. Record your password in a safe place. (Do not share your password with anyone else)
- Write down your internet ID in a safe place as well. You will need to use your ID and password to access your email account.
Step 3: Log into your UMD email account
Your University email account is the official means of communication at UMD.
The University uses Google Mail (Gmail) as our email platform. Your UMD email address is [email protected]. For example, if your Internet ID were champ021, your email address would be [email protected].
There are a couple of ways to access your email account:
- You can go to MyU, sign in with your UMD Internet ID and password, and click the email icon in the upper right.
- You can go to gmail.umn.edu, sign in with your UMD Internet ID and password.
Check your university Gmail account regularly for important information and messages.
Step 4: Getting your U Card
U Card is the official UMD identification card and your key to a number of services and discounts.
- For information on how to get your U Card and all of its added benefits visit the U Card website.
- You can pick up your U Card at the U Card office located at 202A Kirby Plaza. Go to U Card website for more information.
- You must present an approved primary form of a government issued photo ID to receive your U Card.

Taking care of your U Card
DO
- Store your U Card in a protective sleeve or case
- Keep your U Card in a secure place
- Monitor your U Card account balances
- Carry your U card with you on campus
DO NOT
- Punch a hole in your U Card
- Lend your U Card to anyone
- Scratch the magnetic stripe
- Put your U Card near a magnet
Step 5: Advising and registration
Once all of the steps above are completed, you will be able to register for an advising and registration meeting. This will be a 45-minute meeting held either in person or virtually via Zoom. An online calendar with appointment times and dates will be available mid June.
Step 6: Math and/or Science courses
If you plan to take Math and/or Science courses through PSEO at UMD, you will need to complete Accuplacer. Please go to Accuplacer and select UMD Mathematics Placement to request your Accuplacer voucher.
